When Chelsea Laughton and Andrew Dunne founded Confident Med Spa in 2022, the two former ConvenientMD executives saw a gap in the market. Plenty of dermatologists and plastic surgeons offered services like Botox and filler as part of their practices. But Laughton says few places focused wholly on medical aesthetics—a specialty unto itself, and one that requires a certain artistry.

“There is a misconception in the market that if you’re a physician trained in skin or in the face in any way, that you understand how Botox and filler work, and that’s not necessarily the case,” says Laughton, president. “You have to have an eye for delivering great results, and you have to be 100% focused on it.”

Laughton says that focus is part of why Confident Med Spa has taken off, with annual revenue growth averaging 608% from 2022 to 2024. From its original location in Epping, the business has opened medical spas in Amherst, Seabrook and Rochester, and partnered with Bedford-based med spa Awaken Beauty and another practice in Windham, Maine.

Laughton says a key to their success has been their team and “understanding the markets that we’re entering,” including demographics and whether there is competition in that market.

Anticipating patients’ needs has been another priority, Laughton says. They’ve started offering services like GLP-1 drugs, peptides, IV hydration and hormone replacement therapy to meet a growing demand for functional health and wellness.

Laughton expects continued growth for Confident Med Spa next year. She says they have several more potential acquisitions in the pipeline and hope to expand to new locations in both Maine and NH.

“For me, it’s seeing the reaction in the patient’s face, or reading the amazing reviews of how we’ve so significantly impacted people’s lives,” she says. “[It’s] so much more than just Botox and filler. It’s like we’ve given people the ability to really take back control of their beauty and their wellness.”
