As Mikros Technologies global reach expands, its leadership remains committed to keeping the company in NH as it’s done for the past 35 years.
“We can be connected to a global market. We can have a reach around the world. But we are very much seeking to anchor our core center of excellence for our design and new product introduction here in New Hampshire,” says Drew Matter, president and CEO of the Claremont-based company.. “We want to continue to grow here, even as we take our technologies to the world.”
Founded in 1991 by Dr. Javier Valenzuela, Mikros Technologies introduced breakthrough liquid cooling technologies for NASA’s Johnson Space Center and Space Station electronics. Now, fueled by the AI boom, there’s increased demand for the company’s thermal management technology and custom liquid cooling solutions continues to rise.
“We’ve always been this kind of diamond in the rough here in New England, capable of solving complex thermal management challenges for leading technology innovators around the globe,” Matter says.
Today, Mikros Technologies has two manufacturing locations in Claremont and has doubled its headcount to about 90 employees in the past year with plans to continue growing.
In 2024, the company announced an acquisition by Jabil, an international company with divisions in medical devices, digital payment solutions, data centers, and semiconductor capital equipment, which will allow Mikros Technologies to expand into new markets. “The Jabil acquisition represents a masterclass in strategic growth that benefits all stakeholders,” says Elyse Crossman, executive director of Greater Claremont Chamber of Commerce.
The leadership team chose to share proceeds from the sale with employees. It was one of the “greatest joys of the acquisition,” Matter says, recalling many emotional conversations with employees about the impact it would have on their lives.
Mikros gives back to the community by providing employees with eight hours of paid time off to volunteer and partners with area schools to expose students to high-skill career paths.
“Their commitment to workforce development is equally evident in their active participation in NH MEP’s career fairs and statewide talent initiatives, where they consistently engage with students, job seekers, and technical professionals,” says Tony Fernandez, president of NH Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
