In the Spotlight: After receiving $25,000 in grants to purchase a new vehicle for its 24-hour staffed residential home, Fellowship Housing Opportunities realized its 2002 Toyota Sienna was still a vehicle capable of meeting the transportation needs of someone else and donated the vehicle to Marianne Smith. She and her daughter will now have reliable transportation to and from school, doctor’s appointments, work and wherever else they need to go.

Pamela Starr has joined Merrimack County Savings Bank as a mortgage loan originator. Starr will be assisting members of the Greater Nashua and Manchester communities who wish to buy, build, refinance or improve their homes. She is based out of the Bank’s Nashua office.

Plymouth State University named Ann McClellan associate provost. McClellan oversaw the evolution of several departments into the Arts & Technologies Cluster and was also elected by fellow faculty members to lead a cross-campus team in 2018 to further integrate the clusters educational model.

The Provident Bank received the President’s “E” Award from The U.S. Department of Commerce. According to a statement, this award is the highest recognition that any American entity can receive for their contribution in expanding U.S. exports. While some 50 organizations are recognized nationwide, The Provident Bank was the only bank receiving the honor this year.

The NH Executive Council recently confirmed chairman Debra Douglas for her fourth three-year term on the NH Lottery Commission. Douglas, who was re-nominated by Governor Chris Sununu, was first appointed to the Commission in 2009 and has served as chair since 2010. Douglas’s term runs through 2022.

Building on Hope, an organization of volunteers, including designers, architects, suppliers and builders, who have completed more than $4.1 million in community-supported renovation projects, seleted the Nashua Police Athletic League  to receive major renovations to its facilities in 2020. The project cost is estimated to be around $500,000.

Girls Inc of New Hampshire raised $288,000 at its 30th annual auction in April, breaking the organization’s single-event fundraising record. The organization serves more than 2,000 girls at centers in Nashua and Manchester, helping them achieve their personal best through leadership development and enrichment programs.

The NH Campaign for Legal Services raised $118,400 to support civil legal aid at NH Legal Assistance and the Legal Advice & Referral Center through sponsorships and individual gifts at the 2019 Campaign Kickoff Breakfast on Tuesday, April 16. In 2018, the two programs helped more than 15,000 people.

The 7th Safe Sports Social, held in Manchester in March raised $100,000. The event raises funds to ensure young athletes are able to make the most of the opportunities sports offers. Started in 1989 with free sports physicals for high school student athletes, Safe Sports Network now provides injury care daily at nine schools and in its drop-in clinic as well as education for coaches, parents and athletes.
