Leaders at VHB understand taking care of employees ultimately means happy customers and a heathy business. To that end, it offers a two-day workshop called the VHB Leads program twice a year that focuses on “the key aspects of leading VHB at the senior level.” Among those key areas is “continuing VHB as a great place to work,” which leads to “clients for life,” which requires “embracing growth.” Leaders are taught to lead with a “servant's heart” and to lead by example. It is one of many programs VHB has in place to help managers develop more effective skills around giving feedback, mediating conflict and setting team goals.

Among the ways VHB strives to create a great workplace is offering $5,000 scholarships annually to children of VHB who are attending college; tuition reimbursement for employees of $5,250 annually; a summer flex schedule that allows employees to work a compressed schedule
and have two Fridays off each month; and offering four weeks of paid paternity leave and 12 weeks of paid maternity leave.

VHB's annual RISE President's Awards Program recognizes employees who demonstrate a commitment to the firm’s culture, who have made a significant impact on VHB, its communities and its industry, and “who inspire our entire community to RISE.” One of two awards given is the Culture Champion, which recognizes a person who leads by example as a VHB ambassador, going above and beyond to advance important programs, events or volunteer efforts to improve VHB and the communities it serves. Another award is presented to the Rising Professional of the Year.
