Sometimes the ties that bind families are not just loving, but lucrative as well. The 155 companies on the 2015 list of the Top Family Owned Businesses in NH generated an impressive $29.96 billion in revenue in 2014.
Granted, the number one company on the list, ranked by revenue, is C&S Wholesale Grocers, a multibillion dollar business that generates the bulk of that $29.96 billion. Take them out of the mix, and family businesses on this list generated $4.06 billion. But that’s up 6.84 percent from the previous year.
Here are some more impressive stats about the economic power of these family owned businesses:
• Collectively, they grew revenue, on average, 7.84% annually between 2012 and 2014.
• 81 percent of the 155 companies on the list grew between 2012 and 2014.
• 41 percent grew revenue by 10 percent or more.
• They employ 29,423 full time, up by more than 5,000 last year, of which 10,753 are employed in NH. They also employ 3,969 part time.
• 494 of those employees are family members.
This is the fourth year Business NH Magazine has partnered with the Center for Family Businesses at the University of NH in Durham to compile the list.
