Bar Harbor Bank & Trust’s newly renovated branch in Newport opened its doors to customers on April 15.


In the Spotlight: Bar Harbor Bank & Trust completed the renovation of its Newport office and opened its doors in April. Renovations consisted of a complete interior makeover of the branch lobby, while also honoring the history of the building. 

Local contractors who worked on the project include: Jewett Construction, A.S. Bartlett & Sons, Biron’s Flooring, Claremont Glassworks Inc., Pinnacle Painting Inc., Granite State Plumbing and Heating, and Hampshire Fire Protection.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust also has made a pledge of $100,000 to support the planned Newport Community Center capital campaign. The proposed 19,720-square-foot center will be located on Meadow Road, and is projected to cost $6.5 million.

Cookson Communications hired Olivia Pollock as communications and social media strategist. She joins Cookson with over five years of experience in marketing communications.

Newburyport Bank made a $1,000 donation in support of the Chase Home for Children’s 5thA nnual Wine & Chocolate Tasting Event. The Chase Home works with at-risk youth. The bank also donated $750 to the Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce Toast to the Coast, and $1,500 to the Cross Roads House 17th Annual Benefit by the Sea. Cross Roads House in Portsmouth provides emergency and transitional shelter to homeless men, women and children.

More than 50 employees from Holy Rosary Credit Union and Bernier Insurance, with family and friends, participated in a bowl-a-thon at Dover Bowl to raise $4,000 for Junior Achievement of Northern New England, an organization that educates students on financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship.

Members First Credit Union employees, who give $5 to dress down in jeans and other casual attire on Fridays raised $560 for Liberty House, a non-profit organization in Manchester that supports homeless veterans.

Brookstone Builders hired Joshua Gold as a project manager. He has more than 14 years experience in the commercial construction industry and has worked as a project manager, safety officer, and site superintendent at locations such as the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, New Boston Air Force Station, and Pease ANG Base.

Ledyard National Bank was selected to participate in the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston's Equity Builder Program, which assists local home buyers with down-payment and closing costs as well as home buyer counseling and rehabilitation assistance. The $3.6 million program provides grants to financial institutions to assist households at or below 80 percent of the area median income. Borrowers can receive up to $15,000 in assistance on a first-come first-serve basis after they complete a homebuyer counseling program. Ledyard is eligible to receive up to $150,000 in 2019 through theprogram depending on availability of funds.

The Crawford Path in the White Mountains National Forest is on tap to receive funds from REI. The outdoor retailer will donate up to $1 million to the National Forest Foundation in 2019. In celebration of The Crawford Path’s 200th anniversary, REI funds will support sustainable trail repairs along the country’s oldest continuously-used mountain trail in New Hampshire. REI helped begin this work in 2018, and this year will assist in completing the project.

Meredith Village Savings Bank promoted Michele Masters to assistant vice president, mortgage operations officer. She joined the bank in 2015 as a mortgage operations supervisor.
