In the Spotlight: Boys & Girls Clubs of America named U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) a recipient of their 2019 Champions of Youth Award. The honor was presented at the organization’s fifth annual National Days of Advocacy in Washington D.C. The Boys & Girls Clubs, which serve 27,000 NH children, cited Shaheen’s commitment to serving youth that elevated the critical need for youth opioid prevention and helped shape policies that affect children and families.

McLane Middleton PA donated 100 books and journals in February as part of its year-long Centennial celebration focused on its clients, the community, and its colleagues. The firm donated 50 “One Thought Changes Everything” books to Farnum Center in Manchester and 50 journals to Megan’s House in Lowell, Mass. Each month during 2019, the firm plans to make a donation to the community based on the number “100.”

BAE Systems in Nashua will sponsor a new, nationwide annual scholarship and internship program to enhance opportunities for high school seniors that plan to seek a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The BAE Systems FIRST Robotics Scholarship and Internship Program will grant a total of $40,000 in scholarships to eight students pursuing an undergraduate degree.

The Friends of Aine Center for Grieving Children and Families in Manchester has appointed two new board members: Gina Powers, director of government relations for RYP Granite Strategies in Concord; and Kristen Kraunelis, director of quality improvement at the Mental Health of Greater Manchester.

Dover Honda, a member of the International Cars, Ltd. family of dealerships, has been named a recipient of the President’s Award for 2018 by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.  Recognizing top-ranking Honda dealerships across the country, the award is considered Honda's highest dealership honor and is based on achievement of excellence in all areas of operation.

Churchill’s Garden Center in Exeter has been sold by David and Diana Kirkpatrick to James and Gisela Manna. The transaction was brokered by Gilbert Oriol, business intermediary of NH Business Sales based in Pembroke. Churchill’s has been in business for more than 60 years and offers educational seminars, shows, a place where garden clubs can meet, as well as children’s events and animals to pet.

Monadnock United Way in Keene hired Paige Martin as program manager for Impact Monadnock. Jill Morgan has been promoted to senior director of impact and Nikki Sauber was promoted to the role of impact and investments manager. Kate Cote has been promoted to volunteer engagement specialist.

The NH Humane Society in Laconia hired Lisa Caputo as operations director. She has extensive experience in the animal welfare sector, serving in leadership roles throughout the country. Prior to joining the NH Humane Society, Caputo served as the director of operations for the Manchester Animal Shelter and before that, as animal care manager.

The Way Home in Manchester appointed Elizabeth Green as the agency’s finance manager, Kaitlynn Morency as housing advocate and Courtney Binette, a senior deposit operations specialist at St. Mary’s Bank, to the board of directors.
