When 2020 drove remote working to an all-time high, LAUCHLAN was sitting in a sweet spot. The marketing firm’s clientele are tech firms, and LAUCHLAN was able to put its customers in front of businesses that needed to transition employees away from the office.
Prior to COVID-19, 25% of the firm’s revenue came from producing live events. In 2020, that went away as in-person events were cancelled. “We were very concerned,” says CEO Kathleen Lauchlan.
The switch to virtual events was swift. “We are a digital creative agency at heart,” Lauchlan says, adding the change was seamless. And virtual events remain a strong part of business this year, she says. “We’re not seeing live events coming back into play yet. I hope they will next year,” Lauchlan says.
Another factor contributing to the firm’s success has been its acquisition of global tech clients, including Google, Dell Technologies, Facebook and VMware. Until 2017, all revenue was generated from clients in North America, Lauchlan says. However, four years later, 60% of revenue comes from overseas business, she says.
“We have seven agencies that are just like us, working together to launch programs,” for large, international clients, she says, without opening any offices outside NH.
Since the pandemic began, LAUCHLAN added 18 employees, which now total 47. “We’re still very much in hiring mode. We’re interviewing daily,” Lauchlan says. She anticipates they will double 2020 revenue. The agency is in the process of securing national certification as a woman-owned business that Lauchlan expects will provide more contracts. “We have been so unbelievably fortunate,” she says.
