President of NH Institute for Art Retires

Published Tuesday Dec 3, 2013

The New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester announced that President Roger Williams will retire, stepping down at the end of the year after 12 years of leading the college.

Chair of the board of trustees, Joseph B. Reilly, said Williams will be appointed as president emeritus and continue as a consultant to the college until the end of 2014. He also announced that the school’s Amherst Street Facility will be named Roger Williams Studio Building. “We are proud of what the Institute has become. As home to over 1,700 students in our Master of Art in Art Education, Bachelor of Fine Arts and community education programs, the Institute is recognized as an exceptional school for those seeking to make the visual arts or creative writing both their career and passion," Reilly said.

Reilly also announced that the board is forming a search committee and will immediately undertake a search for a replacement for Williams. He expects to have a new president installed to begin the 2014-2015 academic year. Executive Vice President Richard Strawbridge will manage day-to-day operations oduring the transition period.

“Our students, faculty and staff should expect to see education as usual,” said Reilly. “We will have Roger available to us and Rick Strawbridge, who has been with us for years, will ensure we continue to deliver on our commitment of quality education in the arts.” Strawbridge served as a trustee for nine years, three of those as chair.
