A Florida sign company has relocated to the Lakes Region from Florida, where it has set up shop and plans to hire 10 people over the next year. Big Daddy’s Signs, formerly of Winter Garden, Fla., is a family-owned, internet-based business producing custom digital signs for businesses and organizations around the US. The company is renting 5,000 square-feet at the O’Shea Industrial Park in Laconia.

Owners Steve and Jeanne Zwicker said there were many reasons for moving the business to the Lakes Region, including being near Jeanne Zwicker’s parents and their two daughters, who attend college in the Northeast. They also cited quality of life.

“New Hampshire is a safe place to live, where you don’t have to worry about your children playing in the front yard,” Jeanne Zwicker said.

Family-owned businesses like Big Daddy’s often relocate to NH for the same reasons as the Zwickers, as well as for its business friendliness, said Michael Bergeron, senior business development manager for the Division of Economic Development in Concord.

“Living in a state that offers skilled employees, excellent schools, quality health care and a sense of security is a big deal to small companies,” he said.

Bergeron is assisting the Zwickers in the move and working with the Belknap Economic Development Council to help them obtain a loan to purchase a new, high-speed digital printer that will enable the business to grow its base of more than 350 wholesale customers.
