Bonnette, Page & Stone Celebrates Women in Construction Week

A Laconia-based construction firm is celebrating Women in Construction (WIC) week, which runs through March 13 and highlights women as an integral element of the construction industry.

“It is important to raise awareness about the many opportunities available to women in this industry. This male dominated industry is progressing and with awareness and encouragement, more women are apt to move past the typical jobs women may think of and pursue new ways to advance and perform in a career in construction,” said Kristin O’Brien, director of marketing for Bonnette, Page & Stone Corp.

According to the National Association of Women in Construction, there is a massive shortage of people in the construction industry.  As a result, there is plenty of opportunity for those interested in a career in the industry. O'Brien says women are moving into engineering, architecture, and field production work, but still account for only 9.9% of the industry, citing data from the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).

Cindy Cassavaugh, a safety officer at Bonnette, Page & Stone Corp., says she has been part of the BPS team for 13 years. In her role, she is responsible for safety practices company-wide and says she conducts hazard control assessments, accident investigation procedures, develops site specific phasing and separation plans and r eports safety issues, as well as oversees OSHA compliance. Cassavaugh says, “I enjoy the team atmosphere both at the office and in the industry. There is a great feeling of pride present after the completion of a project. Every employee is valued and plays an intricate part of the end result.”
