Black Friday Results Unveiled From NH Firm FreePriceAlerts.Com

Published Tuesday Dec 4, 2012

We all know that holiday shopping doesn't end after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Bob Wilkins, CEO and founder of FreePriceAlerts in Nashua, reports that the online shopping engine that he says has saved consumers more than $80 million, notes several new trends that emerged this year.

Some interesting facts his team saw over the Thanksgiving Weekend and Cyber Monday include:

  • Online shopping no longer belongs solely to Amazon.com. Sam's Club is the surprising winner this year, seeing the most Cyber Monday sales via FreePriceAlerts, followed by Amazon in the number two slot;
  • Kohl's, The Sears Outlet and specialty retailers like Wayfair, ABT Electronics, and Sun + Ski Sports rounded out the top sellers;
  • Nostalgia products are back. Levi's 501 jeans and Air Jordans were the top sellers in apparel and footwear category and EasyBakeOven made the top three among toys;
  • After electronics, which accounted for close to 65 percent of purchases and was dominated by tablets, automotive was the second largest segment, with consumers purchasing Garmin GPS units and back-up cameras.

Finally the firm noted that Hurricane Sandy had an effect on what was selling as portable generators showed up as a top-five purchase in the automotive and home improvement sectors.
