Best Companies to Work for: 4. Northeast Delta Dental

My manager is interested in my well-being: 97% agree

I can keep a reasonable balance between work and personal life: 97% agree

President & CEO: Tom Raffio

Years in Business: 62

Full-time Employees: 175

Years on List: 11 (plus five in Hall of Fame)

There’s a reason Northeast Delta Dental holds the title for the most wins on the Best Companies to Work For list. This is an organization that knows it has talent and taps into it. Through its Bright Ideas program, employees can suggest ways the company can improve. Employees have submitted 2,200 ideas, and more than 40% have been implemented. When an idea is not implemented, Northeast Delta Dental follows up with the employee with an explanation.

Northeast Delta Dental has a culture of appreciation and respect, and managers are supplied with thank you and gift cards to award and thank employees. Every hourly employee receives a birthday card with a note signed by the president and CEO and a $50 check.

That appreciation starts on day one when new employees see their name on the marquee welcoming their arrival and are greeted by their manager. Human Resources gives them a campus tour, introduces them to their colleagues and provides a goodie bag of company swag. And HR asks new employees how they like to be recognized for their work. Raffio also holds a Coffee with the Coach session with new hires.

And while most employees work a remote or hybrid schedule, Northeast Delta Dental has brought back its spring and fall onsite luncheons. It provides a gift card to out-of-state employees who cannot attend in person.

Its robust benefits include 100% paid health insurance premiums for individual employees, fully paid dental and vision plans, a retirement plan that does not require a match for employees to receive the company contribution, 225 hours of paid parental leave within the first 26 weeks of the child's birth or adoption, an onsite fitness center and fitness coach, and unlimited tuition reimbursement.
