“The world has become very complicated over the last several years and finding a way to disengage, or unplug, allows some employees that require an extended period of time the ability to do just that,” Moore Nanotech states in its Best Companies to Work For application, which is why it offers employees a sabbatical, ranging from 30 days to more than six months.

Moore Nanotech offers employees up to 28 days of paid time-off annually as well as giving them their birthday off and eight hours of paid time-off to volunteer. And the company shuts down for the Christmas holiday, providing employees with up to nine consecutive days off.

Five years ago, Mark Boomgarden took the reins as president and CEO and brought with him a strong belief in investing in employees and their careers and allowing “people to make mistakes with a safety net.” He and his senior team created cross training plans and advancement goals for all employees. They also created Moore U, offering monthly lunch-and-learn sessions where employees enjoy a free catered lunch and learn about various aspects of the business.

Nanotech also provides company paid cellphone plans, technology reimbursement and remote work options.

The company abides by its motto, “those that play well together, work well together.” Throughout the year it offers ice cream socials, monthly free treat days, summer BBQs, a Veterans Day pizza luncheon, monthly raffles and free chair massages. And families are invited to attend the annual Employee Appreciation Picnic, which includes games and raffles for extra paid time-off, gift cards and a cash prize of thousands of dollars.
