City Year New Hampshire, a Manchester headquartered nonprofit that recruits young adults to serve as full time tutors, mentors and role models in six high-need Manchester public schools, announced that Bain Capital donated $50,000 to help keep students in school and on track to succeed. Bain Capital will serve as the national sponsor of City Year's 25th anniversary with a $3 million gift to support the organization's work. Bain Capital is also serving as national presenting sponsor of City Year events in 25 cities nationwide with donations of $50,000 to each site, including NH.

Bain Capital’s local investment will be recognized at City Year New Hampshire’s upcoming Starry Starry Night gala, a fundraiser featuring a black tie dinner, live and silent auctions, and presentations by City Year corps members who devote a year of full-time service in the state’s highest-need elementary schools. Tom Raffio, CEO of Northeast Delta Dental in Concord and chair of the State Board of Education, and his wife Lisa Raffio will be presented with the Lifetime of Service Award. The gala is projected to raise $250,000 from a sellout crowd of 300 business and civic leaders on Saturday, March 29, at the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel in New Castle.

“It is an honor to support City Year New Hampshire, whose corps members commit a year of full-time service to help at-risk students stay in school,” said Sally Fassler, chief financial officer at Sankaty Advisors, the credit affiliate of Bain Capital, who will attend the Starry Starry Night. “City Year and Bain Capital approach their missions in the same fundamental way. Both organizations analyze the root cause of a situation, develop a set of solutions and then roll up our sleeves to get the hard work done. We’re thrilled to continue our support of City Year by helping celebrate 25 years of positive impact on communities and schools.”

“We couldn’t be more grateful to our City Year New Hampshire champions like Bain Capital who make this important work possible,” said Pawn Nitichan, City Year NH executive director. “Our annual dinner provides an exciting opportunity to celebrate City Year corps members who bring energy and enthusiasm into schools, work one-on-one with students and serve as important additional resources for teachers in the classroom.”

Since City Year’s inception, Bain Capital and its employees have supported City Year with more than $25 million in donations and hundreds of volunteer hours by the firm’s employees. Bain Capital partners and employees have participated in firm-wide volunteer service days, served as advisers and board members, organized fundraising and awareness events, and contributed generously to the organization financially.
