As a fourth-generation, family-owned business, Hammond Lumber Company has a family-first work environment. All employees and their families are invited to the annual Family Summer Outing with lunch and games. Hammond also has an annual holiday party that includes dinner, awards, costume contests, mechanical bull riding and axe throwing.
Throughout the year, employees can access tickets for sporting events and outings, including Portland Sea Dogs and Maine Mariners games, professional bull riders show or Cirque
du Soleil.
It provides each new employee with company swag as well as a gift card for company apparel during onboarding. Employees who work outside also receive a winter hat, a pair of gloves, and a pocket knife.
It holds “Season of Thanks” events throughout the year, surprising employees with appreciation gifts, including a $1,000 bonus, $100 Hannaford gift card, $400 company apparel gift card, and a YETI mug.
Hammond Lumber offers a variety of healthcare plan options and provides case management to help employees navigate the healthcare system. Hammond contributes $800 to $1,600 annually to employees’ Health Savings Account. Employees are also eligible for a $500 credit when they complete preventive health exams, and have online access to mental health tools and a health coach.
Hammond has an online Learning Management System, which can be downloaded as a mobile app to access trainings, give feedback and map out career paths for job positions. Last year, Hammond developed a new mentor program.
