WMUR Expands News Team

WMUR, NH's largest television broadcast network, will expand its news by adding a 4 pm newscast to its weekday lineup beginning in June. WMUR News 9 at 4 will replace The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which is in its final season and concludes original episodes in May.

“We know there is an appetite for news at 4 pm but New Hampshire viewers simply do not have a local option. We are excited to soon provide one,” said WMUR President and General Manager Andrew Vrees.

To support the additional newscast, WMUR is expanding the news team and adjusting current anchor assignments. Sports Director Jamie Staton, a NH native, will move into the role of anchor/reporter for both the 4 pm and 6 pm newscasts. Staton joined WMUR in 1998, and has covered local and national sports, major news events, and has been a community advocate, even establishing the “’Battle of the Badges” charity hockey game.

WMUR has also hired two new anchors. Steve Bottari from Hearst Television sister-station WMTW in Portland/Auburn, ME will join WMUR team as an anchor and reporter. Also, Marissa Tansino comes to WMUR from WFMY in Greensboro, NC.

“We are thrilled to grow WMUR’s team of journalists, especially with those who are already professionally and personally connected to New Hampshire,” said WMUR News Director Alisha McDevitt.
