LandVest, a Boston-based real estate firm with offices in Concord and W. Stewartstown, lowered the price of Longview in Alton by almost $30 million, dropping the price from $49 million to $19.8 million (which is below its assessed value). According to LandVest, the 16.6-acre property on Lake Winnipesaukee is the most expensive estate for sale in NH.

Longview was built between 2004 and 2007 by the Bahre family, the founders of NH Motor Speedway in Loudon, who designed the property to entertain family and speedway celebrities. The property gets its name from its setting at the southern end of the “Broads,” the open 28-mile-long stretch of Lake Winnipesaukee, where some of the boating scenes from On Golden Pond were shot. 

Longview totals over 63,000 square feet of living space and has 1,594 feet of lake frontage. The property includes two estates at 142 and 144 Hopewell Road in Alton, as well as a 7,655-square-foot reproduction post and beam entertainment barn, a tea house, boat houses and a no-edge pool with a waterfall and grotto. Both homes on the property have a movie theater and gym. The 144 Hopewell house includes an entertainment wing with a bar and billiard rooms, grand ballroom and catering kitchen. 

Many of the outdoor features of Longview are no longer allowed, but are grandfathered because they were in place from the previous owner, the Alton Boy’s Camp (now Camp Mi-Ten-Na, owned by the Granite YMCA). This includes a granite amphitheater and stone pavilion built out onto the lake with a one-room cottage, two stone boathouses with two and three bays, stone breakwaters, a sand beach, tennis court and a grass helipad.
