Sour’s Taverna, which opened last September, is a cozy tapas bar and restaurant in the historic Thayers Inn in Littleton. It offers a blend of Mediterranean flavors and artisanal cocktails.

Sour’s Taverna is owned by Chris Sourgiadakis, who grew up working at his family’s restaurant as a child and later worked as a bartender in Portland, Maine. Sourgiadakis’s father Jim and his two uncles opened Gold House Pizza on Main Street in Littleton in 1983. “There are pictures of me and my brother when we were little kids. We had to stand on chairs to reach the countertop so we could stretch out pizza dough,” Sourgiadakis says.

While planning his own restaurant, Sourgiadakis wanted to create a family-style experience that allows people to share their dishes. “You go into a nice restaurant and look at the menu and you’re like, ‘Man, I want all of those options.’ That’s the American style of eating,” he says. Tapas involves creating a meal from of a variety of small plates. “That’s the Greek style of eating as well,” he says. “When you sit down with your family at a restaurant in Greece it’s all about family, community, and sharing.”

Sour’s Taverna’s menu is a blend of traditional and contemporary tapas dishes made with local ingredients, including crispy duck fat fries, Bourekas (spinach pies) and lamb belly dishes.

Sour’s bar features a selection of handcrafted cocktails as well as wine and beer. Sourgiadakis puts his bartending skills to use by inventing his own versions of classic cocktails like the Whiskey Sour. He dubs his version the Bourbon Honey Sour. “I decided to take my honey and infuse it with rosemary and ginger as well as candied ginger and lemon juice. Then I use a honey stick to make it more interactive because everyone’s taste buds are different.”
