A former U.S. congressman and the first state representative of Indian American descent to serve in the NH House have teamed up, launching Shanti Energy in 2020.
The duo says their Nashua-based firm advises business, municipal and institutional clients looking to save energy and cut costs with advanced green design and sustainable, solar energy installations.
Rep. Latha Mangipudi, a long-time proponent of renewable energy, became increasingly concerned about the environmental impacts of traditional energy sources and approached former U.S. Representative and attorney Paul Hodes about partnering on this new endeavor. “We wanted to do clean energy and address climate change and provide something good,” she says, adding that is why they named their company Shanti, which is Hindi for “Bringing peace.”
Mangipudi, the majority partner who is serving her fifth term in the NH House representing Nashua, says Shanti Energy works with commercial net-zero development companies as well as KW Management, a solar array installer in Nashua. It also has relationships with banks, investors and other lenders for financing projects. Those relationships mean they can bring together the parties necessary to complete projects, Hodes says.
Shanti Energy, a woman- and minority-owned company, recently partnered with KW Management to install a five roof-top solar array for International Cars at the Stratham Porsche-Audi dealerships. The array will supply about 90% of the dealerships’ total electricity needs.
“We’ve looked at a number of potential projects in New Hampshire from the North Country to Goffstown. We’re currently looking at a large residential net-zero project in another state,” Hodes says, adding the firm is also in the planning stages for a large ground-based solar array near Concord.
