Published Tuesday Sep 13, 2016

Becker's Hospital Review  named three NH hospital CEOs to its 2016 edition of the 110 Physician Leaders to know nationwide.

This list features hospital and health system presidents and CEOs who also hold medical degrees. All recipients have demonstrated outstanding leadership and clinical expertise throughout their careers, leading initiatives to improve their individual organizations and the healthcare of the communities they serve.

The three NH executives are: Richard Boehler, MD, president and CEO of St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua; Joseph Pepe, MD, president and CEO of Catholic Medical Center in Manchester; and James Weinstein, DO, president and CEO of Dartmouth-Hitchcock based in Lebanon.

Richard Boehler has served as president and CEO at St. Joseph Hospital since April 2013. He has more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience, previously acting as VP of medical affairs and chief medical officer of St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Maryland. He is an experienced physician educator who has held academic appointments at Harvard Medical School in Boston and Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore. Boehler is a Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives (FACPE) and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Joseph Pepe, a board-certified internist, has served as president and CEO of Catholic Medical Center since January 2012, according to Beckers. Before being appointed to his current role, he served as the hospital's CMO. He began his career as a clinician at Catholic Medical Center in 1990. As CEO, Dr. Pepe oversees operations for the 330-bed medical center, the New England Heart and Vascular Institute and several subsidiaries, including primary and specialty care practices, urgent care and an ambulatory surgery partnership with 30 independent physicians and surgeons.

James Weinstein has been CEO and president of Dartmouth-Hitchcock since 2011 and is an internationally renowned orthopaedic spine surgeon who has spent decades studying the U.S. health care system. Recently, he shared his analysis of health care and outlined solutions as a co-author of "Unraveled: Prescriptions to Repair a Broken Health Care System".
