In the spotlight: The NH Liquor Commission (NHLC) was nominated for Retailer of the Year in Wine Enthusiast’s 22nd Annual Wine Star Awards, which honors individuals and companies for outstanding contributions to the wine and alcohol beverage industry. NHLC also received two national awards from StateWays Magazine: Best On-Premise Partnership and for Best Technology Innovation.

St. Mary’s Bank in Manchester celebrated the reopening of its Milford branch, which is now located at 606 Nashua Street, across the road from where it had been for 15 years. Like its newest Nashua branch, Milford features interactive teller machines (ITMs), that enable representatives to remotely offer members live assistance with transactions before, during, and after normal branch hours.

Jewett Construction Company in Freemont, a design-build construction management firm and general contractor, hired David Scott as a project manager. Scott has 20 years’ experience and most recently worked a project manager with Columbia Construction.

Jersey Mike’s Subs opens in Seabrook on November 3. Franchise owners Betsey Thomas and Jennifer Ting will hold a grand opening and fundraiser from Wednesday to Sunday, to support Winnacunnet High School.

Meredith Village Savings Bank is opening a branch in Rochester in early summer 2022. The land purchase was finalized in late September and construction is slated to begin soon. MVSB has locations throughout the Lakes Region and opened its Portsmouth branch in 2017 to expand its footprint in the Seacoast region.

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts named Fitzemeyer & Tocci as a 2021 Bronze Engineering Excellence Award winner for their work on the Hitchiner Manufacturing Plant No. 5 in Milford. The growing demand of Hitchiner’s high-tech, proprietary manufacturing services resulted in the need for a new, manufacturing facility.

McLane Middleton hired attorney Derek J. Kaufman who joins the firm as an associate in the corporate department in the firm’s Manchester office. In law school he was the chief symposium editor for the UNH Law Review and a Daniel Webster Scholar. In addition, he was a legal writing and research assistant to Professor Alexandra J. Roberts.

Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford named William Graves as outdoor center manager. He comes to Gunstock with many years of Nordic skiing experience, including time spent on the U.S. Ski Team.

UNH achieved a renewed platinum rating, the highest possible under the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s rating system, for ongoing and increasing sustainability achievements. In addition, UNH was recently ranked 9th among the Top 20 Coolest Schools of 2021 by the Sierra Club and remains a fixture on the Princeton Review’s Green Honor Roll, just one of 27 named out of more than 800 reviewed.

Heartfelt Dreams Foundation, a Hollis nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the treatment experience for congenital heart defect patients and their families, named nursing student Nicole Van Nuland as its 2021 Academic Nursing Scholarship recipient and awarded $5,000 toward her nursing studies for the next academic year.

Officials with the Hobo and Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad stated that due to rising Covid-19 numbers in New Hampshire, and out of an abundance of caution, their annual Santa Express Trains will not operate this season. Instead, the railroad hopes to once again offer these special holiday excursions in 2022.
