Bellwether Community Credit Union in Manchester made two leadership appointments. Joining the credit union are William Zafirson as senior vice president/CLO and Lori Holmes as vice president of Marketing. With more than 35 years in the financial services industry, Zafirson served as executive vice president and chief lending officer for Bank of New Hampshire and held leadership roles in lending at Northway Bank, TD Bank, and Bank of Maine. Prior to her position at Bellwether, Holmes spent 12 years at Service Credit Union, recently holding the position of AVP of marketing and communications. She is a former editor and reporter with 20 years in journalism.

Step Up Parents Portsmouth received $5,000 from Kennebunk Savings Bank, which has branches in NH, through its Spotlight Fund, which is focused on substance use disorder recovery and prevention in Maine and NH. Step Up Parents offers financial assistance to relative caregivers who have stepped up to raise children of parents struggling with substance use.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration awarded a $3.7 million grant to the Nashua Transit System as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act. Nashua Transit will use the funds to support transit and paratransit operations during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in NH launched a virtual dental care program with The TeleDentists, which provides virtual exams covered at 100 percent with no deductibles, copays, paperwork or claims to file through June 30.

Granite United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is available virtually. When the tax filing deadline was moved to July 15, it gave the VITA team an opportunity to continue their services safely. Participants are connected to one of the virtual VITA team members and can begin their tax preparation.

Bangor Savings Bank Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant for the Virtual Inclusion Support and Technology Assistance (VISTA) program, a pilot initiative in Manchester, using a multi-pronged approach to help students and their families climb out of intergenerational poverty.

The Newburyport Bank Charitable Foundation donated $2,500 to the Rockingham County Coronavirus Emergency Response Fund, in Manchester. The fund is an initiative of Southern NH Services, Inc., whose mission is to assist low-income participants, including the elderly poor in Rockingham County.

Based in Portsmouth and serving youth, ages 11 to 19, statewide, The Chase Home recently received a $5,000 Express Grant from the NH Charitable Foundation to help meet urgent needs related to COVID-19.
