Sunapee Cove Assisted Living

Spotlight: North Branch Construction in Concord began work on the $4 million addition and renovation at Sunapee Cove Assisted Living in Sunapee, Sunapee Cove offers wellness services to its elderly residents in their own apartments. Owned by HallKeen Assisted Living Communities, the facility also offers short-term respite care services for recovery after hospital stays and illnesses. North Branch Construction is adding a two-story, 14,000-square-foot addition and renovating portions of the existing four-story, 31,000-square-foot building. The addition will provide Sunapee Cove with a new Memory Care unit.

The NH Bankers Association named Sam Laverack, president and CEO of NH Mutual Bancorp in Concord, as the 2017 Community Banker of the Year. Laverack was nominated by several organizations, including the Granite United Way, for his leadership and tireless efforts in leveraging his role as a business leader in the communities NH Mutual Bancorp serves.

The World Affairs Council of NH, a nonprofit organization in Manchester that fosters learning, discussion and citizen involvement in world affairs, elected to its board of directors: Evelyn Aissa, executive director of Reaching Higher NH, an nonprofit that fosters support for high quality education in NH; and Norman Turcotte, former CEO and president of Associated Grocers of New England in Pembroke.

John B. Garvey, founding director of the nationally acclaimed Daniel Webster Scholars Honors Program at the University of NH School of Law in Concord, received the 2017 Frank Rowe Kenison Award at the NH Bar Foundation’s 40th Annual Dinner on Sept. 12. Garvey, a former partner at the Sulloway & Hollis law firm, was hired in 2005 to guide the implementation of the Daniel Webster Scholars program, which prepares students for admission to the NH bar through an intensive curriculum of skill-based instruction and ongoing evaluation.

Rory Parnell of the Parnell & McKay law firm in Londonderry, received the Robert E. Kirby award, presented to a lawyer 35 years old or younger, at the NH Bar Foundation’s 40th Annual Dinner. After he became a lawyer in 2011, Parnell quickly became active in the Bar’s Pro Bono Referral Program.  He was a recipient of the 2014 Pro Bono Rising Star Award, and the following year was named to the Pro Bono Governing Board.

Portsmouth Regional Hospital raised more than $4,500 at its Third-Annual Car Show on Sept. 10 to benefit Veterans Count. Veterans Count, developed in partnership with Easter Seals NH, the NH National Guard and the NH Department of Health and Human Services, provides critical resources to veterans of all eras and their families. Since the program was launched, more than $2.6 million has been distributed to provide financial support to include food, home maintenance, housing, rent, fuel assistance, utilities, vehicle repair, gasoline, medical bills, and childcare.

Frederick’s Pastries in Amherst donated $576.00 to support Bridges Domestic and Sexual Violence Support. Bridges is a nonprofit organization that provides free and confidential services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, teen dating violence, child sexual abuse, elder abuse, stalking, and harassment by providing crisis intervention, emergency shelter, court advocacy, support groups, and education and outreach to both women and men.

Ten mortgage professionals have been named 2018 NH Housing Homeownership Fellows. This program offers an interactive and educational opportunity to explore the issues and challenges of the mortgage finance system. Fellows participate in sessions about housing and public policy, housing and economic development, state government issues, and NH Housing’s homeownership programs. The 2018 NH Housing Fellows are: Benjamin Carmen, loan officer with Merrimack Mortgage in Nashua; Tricia Corson, mortgage planner with Regency Mortgage in Bedford; Tracy Jordan, loan originator with St. Mary’s Bank in Manchester; Tammie Mahoney, loan officer with Bank of NH in Laconia; Christine Greenwood, loan officer with Savings Bank of Walpole in Keene; Terri Crate, VP and senior retail loan office with Sugar River Bank in Newport; Jane Jordan, senior loan officer and branch manager with Mortgage Network in Laconia; Matthew Mercier, Realtor with Re/Max Insight in Salem; Zac Saunders, loan originator with Residential Mortgage Services in Bedford; and Renee Woodard, deputy director of The Housing Partnership in Portsmouth.
