For the second year in a row, SkyTerra Technologies’ growth has landed the company on the 10 to Watch list. And it has achieved that growth without a sales force or cold calling. “We want to have growth but controlled growth,” says Co-founder Darren Schriver. “If we execute well, the work will come.”

About 90% of SkyTerra’s new business is from customer referrals, says Co-founder Dan Bergeron, who adds they picked up 42 new customers in 2020 from referrals alone.

Schriver says their bond with customers gives them a strategic advantage. “A lot of companies don’t work on relationships with clients. It is a transactional relationship. Our goal is to build a relationship,” he says.

It’s not just customers who seek out SkyTerra. Microsoft called to let them know they were among its top 10 voice service vendors in North America and asked what they were doing to achieve that, Bergeron says.  The answer wasn’t complicated. “We called customers and asked what they needed,” he says.

Another thing they do right is empower employees, Bergeron says. “People come first. If we treat people right, the money will follow,” Schriver adds. Their company culture has allowed them to grow to 30 employees despite NH’s talent crunch, Bergeron says. “Our employees are the best marketing. They give us the best reviews and are great vehicles for recruiting,” he says. What’s more, the company continues to hire.

The two partners also launched a new company in 2021, Skylytics, which provides analytic technology that takes company data and makes it actionable. Skylytics “is poised to do very well,” Bergeron says.

As for SkyTerra, Bergeron says it is possible the company could achieve $50 million in revenue within five  years.
