This is a man who will never run for political office but who works hard to make sure the right people win. And when he places a call, it is always returned. Montrone was chairman and CEO of Fisher Scientific, where he increased sales from $760 million to about $6 billion, and he's a founding member of the nonprofit Live Free or Die Alliance, which promotes civil engagement by providing objective information about NH politics. The idea of [the alliance] is to get citizens reengaged in their role, which is helping to define the role of government, he says. Montrone heads Perspecta Trust, a wealth management firm with $1 billion in fiduciary assets under supervision. He advocated to make NH more friendly to trust companies, which numbered 16 prior to law changes in 2006 and is now over 30. Montrone has donated more than $200,000 to local and national Democratic candidates, along with significant charitable donations.
