Not following federal health and safety laws has always been costly, but now it is even more so since new laws went into effect August 2 that increase Occupational Health and Safety Administration Fines (OSHA) significantly.
Until very recently, a serious OSHA violation penalty stood at $7,000; now it is $12,471 per violation. Similarly, the fine for failure to abate a problem increased from $7,000 a day to $12,471 a day and the fine for willful or repeated violations increased from $70,000 per violation to $124,709 per violation.
