The NH Electric Co-op Foundation granted $20,000 to the NH Food Bank in Manchester, which will be dispersed to 33 food pantries across the state that serve NHEC members. The donation was made in the form of account credits at the NH Food Bank, where pantries can shop at prices that are often lower than local grocery stores.
Headquartered in Plymouth, the NH Electric Co-op (NHEC) is a member-owned electric distribution cooperative serving 84,000 homes and businesses in 115 NH communities. Since the co-op formed the NHEC Foundation in 2006, the organization has granted nearly $400,000 to the NH Food Bank.
The Foundation raises funds through its Round Up Program - monthly electric bills of the program's more than 40,000 participating members are rounded up to the next dollar, with the proceeds benefiting the Foundation. On average, participating members each contribute about six dollars a year.
“By giving each pantry an account credit, this allows them to purchase the items they really need at a much lower cost through the NH Food Bank," says Sharon Davis, chair of the NHEC Foundation.
The grant will be distributed to pantries in the following communities:

Conway, Moultonborough, North Conway, Wakefield, West Ossipee and Wolfeboro
Coos County
Colebrook
Grafton County
Campton, Canaan, Danbury, Lincoln, Littleton, North Haverhill, Plymouth and Warren
Merrimack County
Franklin and New London
Rockingham County
Deerfield, Derry, Hampstead, Nottingham and Raymond
Strafford County
New Durham
Sullivan County
Charlestown and Newport
