New President of Anthem Named

Anthem announced today that Maria Proulx has been named president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire and will assume her new role March 14.

“Maria brings a wealth of experience to this role and a commitment to fulfilling our mission of improving lives and communities in New Hampshire,” said Kurt Small, president of Anthem’s Commercial Business for the East Region. “She’s a strong leader who built her career in New Hampshire, which makes her a great fit for this position.”

Proulx currently serves as the regional vice president of sales for the New Hampshire plan, where she has led growth and retention efforts across Anthem’s large group, small group and individual business lines for the last three years.

“It’s an honor to be asked to lead Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire, and I look forward to continuing our efforts to protect healthcare affordability and improve access for the people we serve in the Granite State,” said Proulx. “We have a talented, dedicated team here in New Hampshire that is deeply committed to innovation and collaborating with employers, providers, and other partners to improve health outcomes for our members and the community, and I’m excited to continue that work as president.”

Prior to her current role, Proulx held a number of leadership positions at Anthem, including vice president of segment solutions, where she led a team focused on delivering market-leading integrated product and technology solutions spanning several areas including clinical health and wellness, digital engagement, sales development, and business intelligence. She has also worked on the provider, legal, and compliance teams, supporting the New Hampshire plan. Prior to joining Anthem, Proulx practiced law at Orr & Reno, PA in Concord.

Proulx was born and raised in Dover. She holds a law degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire. She currently serves on the board of directors for FC Exeter Soccer Club and the Northern New England Soccer League and is a member of the Leadership New Hampshire class of 2022. Proulx will continue to be based out of Anthem’s Manchester office.

Proulx succeeds Lisa Guertin, who is retiring from Anthem after 18 years as president and 32 years with the company.
