In late February, the Nash Casino, a charitable gaming venue, finally opened its doors in the old Sears building on Daniel Webster Highway in Nashua.
The casino, developed by ECL Entertainment and Clairvest based in Toronto, will create 500 to 600 new jobs, says Nash Casino General Manager Eric Althaus. “There are a lot of jobs you may not think about,” he adds. “There are HHR [Historical Horse Racing] attendants, food and beverage, managers, cage operations … truly a full gambit of positions.”
The Nash Casino will include a training facility for casino dealers, along with 1,100 HHR machines, 28 table games, 19 poker tables, restaurants, cafes and a Top Golf simulator with four bays for those who want to tee up after Blackjack. And there will be plenty of seating for those looking to dine in. The Proper Chop House & Cocktails will seat 137 along with the Woodland Café, the Lucky Lantern Noodle Bar, a Sports Book Stadium with a dining area seating 224 and the Electric Pheasant Casual Lounge.
As a charitable gaming organization, Nash Casino is required to give 35% of its profits to registered non-profits. ECL says it expects the facility will generate around $24 million annually for more than 100 NH nonprofits. In January the casino had hired about 90% of its staff.
Althaus, who started managing casinos in the early 90s, says he expects people to come from surrounding areas including the Boston region. “This is truly an entertainment experience for people with something for everyone,” he says. For more information, visit the nashcasino.com.
