NEWFIELDS — A judge has rejected an effort by neighbors to throw out Vernon Family Farm’s countersuit, which accuses them of years of coordinated attempts to undermine the business and “viciously attack” the Vernons’ way of life.

Jeremiah and Nicole Vernon filed the counterclaims after five neighbors sued them in 2024 to stop concerts and agritourism events on their 33?acre Newfields farm, arguing the activities harmed their quality of life and property values.

The Vernons scored a major win in June 2025 when Judge David W. Ruoff dismissed most of the neighbors' lawsuit, including all claims against the town of Newfields. Only one allegation remains: that the farm violated the town’s noise ordinance.

In their countersuit, filed in 2025, the Vernons allege the neighbors interfered with their business, misused town processes, and spread false claims about the farm. They say the neighbors have filed 135 complaints with town boards and additional complaints to the agriculture commissioner and the attorney general, and have referred to their events as “debauchery.”
