It's Small Business Week and the SBA Names its 2017 NH Winners

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the NH Bankers Association (NHBA) released its 2017 NH Small Business Award winners, recognizing outstanding small business owners throughout the state. Jake Reder, co-founder and CEO of Celdara Medical in Lebanon, received the SBA’s NH Small Business Person of the Year award.

Reder and Celdara Medical have worked with 200 academic institutions nationwide reviewing academic research to identify innovations most likely to provide hope and health to patients as well as economic and reputational value to academic institutions. They help develop life-saving therapies into clinical trials and ultimately, into commercial production. 

Reder also competed with the nation’s top small businesses for the National Small Business Person of the Year during the SBA’s National Small Business Week, April 30 - May 1. The winner was selected from 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.

"This is a wonderful honor, and I couldn’t be more thankful to SBA for all the support they’ve provided over the years," says Reder. "This is an important acknowledgment of the dedication and inspiration that each of my colleagues brings to Celdara Medical every day.” 

Greta Johansson, district director of the SBA’s NH District Office in Concord, says, Reder has "assembled a team of highly regarded and skilled scientists focused on developing new-to-world therapies—those with the potential to cure humanity's most challenging diseases—from the lab into the clinic where they can begin to help patients."

On May 2, NHBA and the NH District Office of the SBA recognized Reder and the other 2017 NH SBA recipients at a awards presentation at the Manchester Country Club. There are also eight other recipients, including two regional winners (Women Owned and Young Entrepreneur) and two breweries. The full list of recipients is as follows:

• New Hampshire Small Business Person of the Year – Jake Reder, co-founder and CEO of Celdara Medical in Lebanon
• New England Woman Owned Business of the Year  – Nicole Carrier, co-founder and president, and Annette Lee, co-Founder and head brewer, of Throwback Brewery in North Hampton
• New Hampshire and New England Young Entrepreneur of the Year – Quinn Worden, founder and president of PT United in Nashua
• New Hampshire Exporter of the Year – Jill Aaron, managing director and owner of HydroComp in Durham
• New Hampshire Woman Owned Small Businesses of the Year  – Joyce Goodwin, owner and director of Granite Start Early Learning Center in Nashua
• Jeffrey Butland Family Owned Business – Timothy E. Emery Sr., CEO, and Timothy E. Emery Jr., president, of Tim’s Truck Capital and Auto Sales in Epsom
• New Hampshire Veteran Owned Business of the Year – Carl Soderberg, co-founder, engineer and brewer, and Mike Frizzelle, co-founder and head brewer, of Able Ebenezer Brewing Company in Merrimack
• New Hampshire Financial Services Champion of the Year – Steven Hinchee, VP and relationship manager at TD Bank
• New Hampshire Small Business Champions of the Year – Todd Workman, executive director of PermaCityLife in Franklin, and Marty Parichand, founder of Outdoor New England and Mill City Park, both in Franklin
