Gov. Maggie Hassan announced her intention to run for the U.S. Senate in 2016 via a video released on her campaign website Monday, October 5. The announcement sets the stage for a run against Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte.
During the video announcement she lauds the state's expansion of Medicaid that took effect last year and a tuition freeze at the state university system her first term in office. Hassan dealt with a divided Legislature during her first term, with Republicans running the Senate and Democrats controlling the House. Republicans control both houses this term.
