The state helped GreenSource Fabrication, a subsidiary of Whelen Engineering in Charlestown, secure millions of dollars to expand its NH operations and add jobs. In January, the NH Executive Council approved a $50 million bond facilitated through the NH Business Finance Authority (BFA) to support a 98,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that is expected to bring 50 to 100 new jobs to Sullivan County.

The capital will allow GreenSource Fabrication to expand manufacturing for Ultra High-Density Interconnect (UHDI) printed circuit boards (PCBs). PCBs create a pathway for electrical signals to travel, connecting various electronic components on circuit boards that are used by the Department of Defense (DoD) and the aerospace industry.

BFA Executive Director James Key-Wallace says the recent funding approval is “right in the bull’s eye” of the BFA’s mission to create jobs in NH. The expansion was made possible through a collaboration between the NH Department of Business and Economic Affairs and the BFA, Key-Wallace says. “This project will add up to 100 highly skilled jobs to the 142 existing jobs already at GreenSource,” he says.

Michael Gleason, GreenSource’s director of product development and strategic growth says the project will allow for the creation of IC substrates (carrier boards) that package microchips in devices like smartphones, computers, and graphics cards. “This is a new capability not available in the U.S.,” he says, adding that with the current “onshoring effort” underway, “demand for U.S. manufacturing is going to pick up.”

GreenSource’s parent company, Whelen Engineering, designs and manufactures warning equipment for vehicles, aviation, and mass notification. “Together they will employ almost a 1,000 people in the state and they’re in an area that can truly benefit from economic development,” Key-Wallace says.

GreenSource was launched in 2019 and received a $46.2 million grant from the DoD last year to enhance its capabilities in defense-sector UHDI PCB manufacturing. The BFA funding will be allocated toward advanced manufacturing equipment for the new facility, with the goal of boosting production quality, supporting national security initiatives, and diversifying GreenSource’s client base.

The manufacturing facility, being built by St. Pierre Inc. in Charlestown, is expected to be completed in the fall and will be producing prototypes by the end of 2026, Gleason says.

“This facility represents a monumental investment in the future of American manufacturing,” says Ashish Jain, CEO of GreenSource Fabrication. “Our partnership with the BFA and the DoD underscores our shared vision for innovation, security, and sustainability.”
