Film Festival goes Virtual as Community Fundraiser

The 2020/2021 Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour is heading to living rooms around the Seacoast as a fundraiser for local community health centers. Goodwin Community Health, Families First Health & Support Center, and Lilac City Pediatrics present this year’s World Tour, which features a collection of inspiring action, environmental, and adventure films, curated into online programs.

Typically, the Banff Film Festival makes stops in about 550 communities and more than 40 countries. And the 2019/2020 World Tour screenings were held at The Music Hall in Portsmouth earlier this year. However, COVID meant seating was limited even though emergency shutdowns hadn't spread across the state yet.

Now, for those who missed the Portsmouth event, the film festival is available for online rental, or they may be given to others, by visiting https://tinyurl.com/y47qcfox. Each program contains eight or nine different films—including short, four-to-five minute films interspersed with longer, 35-plus-minute features.

After renting, viewing may begin anytime between now and late October 2021 and must then be completed within a three- or fourteen-day window, depending on the program selected.

“The Banff Film Festival is such a fun, high-energy event,” said Joann Neumann, development director for Families First and Goodwin Community Health. “The films are always inspirational and transport our guests to new experiences throughout remote areas of the world. While we can’t replicate the experience of seeing the Banff films on the big screen, we hope these curated programs of amazing outdoor films inspire people this holiday season.”

Proceeds will assist local individuals and families in accessing innovative, compassionate, integrated health services and family support at Goodwin Community Health in Somersworth, Families First Health & Support Center in Portsmouth, and Lilac City Pediatrics in Rochester. More information about the services provided at each center can be found at GetCommunityHealth.org.
