The Farnum Center, a program of Easter Seals NH, received the 2016 Excellence in Nonprofit Management Award from the NH Charitable Foundation in Concord. The award came with a $5,000 grant.

With locations in Manchester and Franklin, the Farnum Center provides affordable access to treatment for recovery from dependence on alcohol and other drugs, and other co-occurring disorders, to individuals and their families.

“Every detail of how we manage our work brings us one step closer to solving the substance use epidemic that is sweeping New Hampshire,” says Cheryl Wilkie, senior vice president at the Farnum Center. “Our staff has been to too many funerals and has seen first-hand the devastating losses caused by addiction. We come to work every day to save lives.”

“Nonprofit leaders work hard every day, but it’s their strong leadership, strategy and business practices that take the work to the next level to meet community needs,” says Katie Merrow, vice president of community impact at the NH Charitable Foundation. “And, as we all know, the need is acute. New Hampshire is fortunate to have Dr. Wilkie and her exceptional staff helping Granites Staters along the path to recovery.”

The Excellence in Nonprofit Management Award is given in honor of Walter J. Dunfey, a noted NH businessman, philanthropist and civic leader. The award celebrates outstanding management, skill and talent within the nonprofit sector. An award is made each year, based on written submissions and interviews of finalists. The award recipient is selected by a review panel of business and community leaders. This year’s panel included: Ryan Barton of Mainstay Technologies in Belmont; Byron Champlin of Lincoln Financial in Concord; Ronald Covey of  St. Mary’s Bank in Manchester; Julia Mazak of Hitchiner Manufacturing Co. in Milford; and Amanda Grappone Osmer of Grappone Automotive Group in Bow.
