Elliot Health System Names Interim CEO

Published Tuesday Jul 26, 2016

Elliot Health System appointed Gary Muller as Interim CEO. He took over the reins July 18 and replaced Jim Woodward.

Muller has more than 40 years of experience in health systems, including 37 years in CEO positions and extensive work in hospital affiliations. He joins Elliot Health System after most recently serving as CEO for Marquette General Hospital, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, from 2007 to 2014. While there, Muller led the process of selling Marquette to Duke LifePoint Health.

Prior to that, Muller spent his career as part of the senior leadership team for a variety of hospitals and health systems, including Superior Health Partners in Michigan; West Jefferson Medical Center in Louisiana; and North Broward Hospital District in Florida. Since his time at Marquette, Muller has worked as an independent consultant to healthcare organizations, focusing on quality improvement and staff and physician development.

The board of directors for Elliot Hospital released a statement that they are confident his experience will assist in discussions Elliot is having with Dartmouth-Hitchcock to affiliate.
