It was an eventful evening on May 8, as the membership of the new Central NH Chamber of Commerce celebrated the consolidation of the Pemi Valley, Plymouth Regional and Squam Lakes Chambers, at Plymouth State University’s Ice Arena Welcome Center. After welcoming the members, Executive Director Scott Stephens introduced the new board of directors, who now represent five distinct regions: Baker Valley, Newfound, Pemi-Waterville Valley, Plymouth, and Squam Lakes. These regions cover 21 towns in Central NH.

Stephens discussed at the first meeting the stepping down of Plymouth State University President Sara Jayne Steen and the retirement of Plymouth State University leader Steve Barba.

Stephens said, "One consistent message that Steve has always addressed is the need for one regional unified Chamber. We thought it was only fitting that we remember this in a special way and have developed an award in that honor.”

It was noted that from the beginning of his tenure on the board of the Plymouth Regional Chamber of Commerce, Barba recognized and promoted the opportunity to strengthen Central New Hampshire’s prominence and position in the state as a resource-rich area that could help better its businesses, citizens and visitors by coming together as one region, said Stephens, who then honored Barba with a Bridge Builder Award.

The Central NH Chamber of Commerce serves the business community by promoting the greater area as a unique place to live, work, and play; recognizing its business, social, and economic opportunities.
