Elliot Health System’s 3,969 employees, spread over locations in eight southern NH communities, are integral to the health of residents in the Greater Manchester area. In 2024, health care providers at its flagship 296-bed acute care facility, Elliot Hospital in Manchester, delivered 2,248 babies, 30,184 cancer treatments and conducted 1.6 million lab tests and more than 21,434 mammograms. Elliot Hospital has the busiest emergency department in the state, with nearly 58,000 visits last year.

Elliot Hospital, founded in 1890, has a history of innovation that continues today. It was first in NH to earn recognition from the American College of Surgeons National Accreditation Program for rectal cancer. The Elliot introduced southern NH’s first Ion Robot to enhance lung biopsies and is the first hospital in NH to use LAVA Liquid Embolic Treatment, a technology that safely halts blood flow in targeted blood vessels. It also launched Elliot VirtualER, an online triage service where patients meet with ER doctors to treat or refer patients to reduce pressure on the department.

Dr. Greg Baxter, president and CEO of Elliot says the hospital is always focused on serving the community the best it can by providing as many services as possible. “We’re measured by the quality of those services,” he says. “We’re always striving to be a comprehensive provider that works with other nonprofits in the healthcare space as well as education systems and public health systems.”

Elliot Health System is also focused on attracting the next generation of nurses to help care for patients through “Beyond the Stethoscope,” which allows Manchester School District high school students to explore careers with the hospital’s staff, and launching, along with other partners, a statewide grant for nursing students—the Granite State P.A.R.T.N.E.R.S. (People Aligning Resources Towards Nursing Expansion and Retention Strategies) program.

Among its many services and centers, Elliot Health System is home to Manchester’s designated Level II Regional Trauma Center, several urgent care centers and outpatient facilities, and the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in southern NH. And it continues to evolve adding heart surgery to its cardiovascular services and launching the new Elliot Heart and Vascular Center earlier this year.

“We are dedicated to actionable engagement in finding solutions that advance health and well-being,” Baxter says.
