BIA's Juvet to Serve on the Commission to Study Business Regulations in NH

Published Tuesday Aug 16, 2011

The Business and Industry Association of New Hampshire, with headquarters in Concord, appointed David Juvet, the association's senior vice president of public policy, to serve on the Commission to Study Business Regulations in NH.

The commission, which was created from legislation (HB 248) last session and strongly supported by the BIA, will examine business regulations in the state, including labor and workforce regulations and environmental and construction/permitting regulations. Commission members will review the effect these regulations have on employment growth and profitability, conduct a cost/benefit analysis of the current regulatory environment, recommend potential reforms and develop legislation for the 2012 session to accomplish reforms.

In addition to the BIA, the commission will be comprised of representatives from the Franconia Notch, Greater Manchester, Greater Nashua, Greater Portsmouth and Lebanon Area chambers of commerce; Associated Builders and Contractors NH/VT Chapter; Home Builders and Remodelers Association of NH; HR State Council of NH; National Association of Professional Employer Organizations; NH Automobile Dealers Association; NH High Technology Council; NH Lodging & Restaurant Association; NH Manufacturing Extension Partnership; the Small Business Development Center; Retail Merchants Association; the public; the building and construction trades; and labor.

We are pleased our efforts to pass HB 248 paid off and legislators responded to feedback from the business community, said BIA President Jim Roche. Our members tell us about the challenges they face when it comes to overly burdensome regulations and regulations that go beyond what is already in place at the federal level. This commission presents an opportunity to explore regulations that may be unnecessary, outdated or redundant and may be inhibiting job growth in New Hampshire.

Juvet leads the association's public policy initiatives and lobbying team. His expertise lies in the areas of tax policy, economic development, human resource and labor issues, and education policy.
