This all-female firm makes sure employees don’t have to sacrifice a home life for their professional career. Attorneys have flexibility to determine their work hours. The firm provides 20 days of paid time-off annually. Staff participate in a flex-time schedule during the summer allowing them to end work at 1 p.m. on Fridays or another day of the week. The firm closes for a companywide paid “Wellness Day” annually just to let people recharge. And the firm pays for a massage therapist to come in twice a year to provide chair massages.

Pastori Krans surprises employees with special treats like ice cream, donuts or gift bags filled with locally sourced items. The firm plans quarterly team-building activities, including zip-lining, cooking classes and a potluck lunch on the State House lawn. The firm holds monthly lunches at restaurants recommended by employees.

Employees receive year-end bonuses, and the firm uses an online platform called Assembly to recognize employees. It also allows management and peers to award trophies to each other on a job well done, and employees can redeem trophies for gift cards, a dress-down day, firm swag or to make a charitable donation.

“We believe that having employees who truly feel valued leads to both a better work product and better client service,” the firm states in its Best Companies application.

New attorneys are extensively mentored by more experienced attorneys, and all employees develop individual "business plans" each year. The firm also invests in educational opportunities for employees through continuing legal education classes, conferences and certifications.
