A History of Portsmouth NH in 101 Objects Celebrates City's 400th Anniversary
To help celerbate Portsmouth's 400th anniversary, a new book is available in time for the holidays. The Portsmouth NH 400th Legacy Project book, A History of Portsmouth NH in 101 Objects, includes objects that symbolize the spirit of Portsmouth and its history since before European contact and in the 400 years since.

The 224-page, softbound book includes full-color images of 101 objects important to Portsmouth's history, matched with texts from 80 different writers who know their topics well. The compilation unites many local voices to celebrate Portsmouth’s unique, diverse and wide-ranging history.

The  book and website, 101ObjectsPortsmouthNH.org, provide a record of what locals value in 2023, a resource for historians and future generations and a tour of the city’s past for the general reader. The creators have added a self-guided tour map to the project website for people to visit the actual objects that will be on public display in 2023.

The book is available at both RiverRun Bookstore and Portsmouth Historical Society, in store and online for $29.99. To order, go to RiverRunBookstore.com/101-2 or call 603-431-2100 or go to the Portsmouth Historical Society museum shop at 10 Middle Street or online at PortsmouthNH400.org/portsmouth-nh-400-mercantile.
