Mascoma Bank is a B corporation, meaning it’s a company certified to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. To make that possible, the 125-year-old bank takes care of its employees and the community.

The company takes communication seriously, recently launching an Internal Communications Standards Practice allowing employees to gain easy access to important updates and information. Mascoma shares employee wins and milestones through Teams on a channel called “Shout Outs.” And in keeping with the bank’s commitment to accountability, one recipient a year receives the Community First Award—highlighting a person who gives back through volunteering, board roles, and more. The bank also offers 16 hours of volunteer paid time off.

Helping employees maintain physical, financial and emotional well being are priorities. The bank offers well being programs where employees can redeem gifts ranging from $75 to $150 from Snappy or a donation of that amount made to a nonprofit of an employee’s choice that Mascoma matches. Mascoma also offers between $2,000 and $3,000 annually to employees for tuition reimbursement.

Mascoma takes professional development seriously with 20% of its staff receiving promotions last year. The bank’s development programs include the Applied Leadership Plan and the Emerging Branch Manager Leadership Plan.

Mascoma has made a commitment to improve diversity, equity and inclusion, which includes an employee group that works with consultants to find ways to attract more diverse applicants and to provide a 5% philanthropy budget for nonprofits focused on addressing racial inequalities.  Macoma was recognized as a finalist for the NH Annual Workplace Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award in 2021 and 2022, and then as a winner in 2023.
