2015 TechOut Competition Opens

Published Monday Jun 22, 2015

TechOut is now accepting applications for its 2015 event. The start-up competition is organized by the NH High Tech Council (NHHTC) in Manchester and AlphaLoft, which has business incubators in Manchester and Portsmouth. Lucky winners will share in half a million dollars in financing, awarded over the course of five years and the awards event will be held October 7 at Dyn in Manchester. The deadline to apply is August 15.

“TechOut provides an opportunity for tech start-up companies to receive financial support and expert advice from our investment team,” said Matt Cookson, NHHTC executive director. “We’re excited for this year’s competition and look forward to seeing the entrepreneurs who are growing the state’s tech ecosystem.”

The competition is open to startups that have been in business for fewer than three years, raised less than $250,000 in funding and have less than $250,000 in revenue. The competition awards $100,000 in prize money: first place receives $50,000, second place $30,000 and third place $20,000. A panel of judges awards the top two prizes and the third prize, $20,000 cash, is decided entirely by the audience the night of the event.

Last year’s top prize winner went to uConnect, a company that aligns entry-level recruiting with higher education to help improve career education, preparation and outcomes for college students and recent graduates. Other past winners include Ultrcell Insulation, miEdge and ThermaHEXX.

Funding for TechOut awards is provided by 20 NH accredited investors who share a passion for entrepreneurship and startups. They have each made a five-year commitment to the MillWorks Fund, enabling the TechOut startup competition to be held annually through at least 2016.
