In addition to offering a 10-month Emerging Leaders program that focuses on such topics as coaching, effective communication, hiring and selection, and leading effective meetings, HR collaborated with the credit union’s Young Professional Group (YPG) to design a job shadow program.

St. Mary’s Bank YPG hosts career workshops, coordinates volunteer opportunities, helps develop new products and programs, and provides coaching.

St. Mary’s observes Meeting Free Fridays to allow employees uninterrupted time get work done.

For employees who reach 100 hours of volunteer service, the bank donates $100 to the nonprofit of their choice.

Through its peer-to-peer Stellar Service recognition program, nominated employees receive a recognition pin and card detailing the reason for their nomination. One or two of those winners are then selected each quarter for additional recognition, which includes a Stellar Service pin, $50 gift card, and a prime parking spot for the month.

There is also a “President’s Club” for employees with 20 years or more service. The president and CEO hosts an annual celebration dinner for these employees and each member receives a gift. Employees reaching 25 years of service are honored with a brick engraved with their name that is installed in the courtyard of America’s Credit Union Museum in Manchester.

St. Mary’s holds annual Employee Appreciation Days with lunch from local food trucks or delivery from local restaurants and company swag gifts with notes of gratitude and prizes.

The credit union also has an onsite gym, subsidizes gym memberships, and provides onsite dietician services to employees and their families.
