Kelly Thompson did not let a pandemic stand in the way of growing her auto glass business. Two years after opening Thompson Auto Glass in Windham in 2019, Thompson opened her second location in Brockton, Mass., and this year opened a third location in Rocky Hill, Conn.
“Where opportunity knocks is where I am going,” Thompson says. And she continues to scout for new locations. “I want to have stores within a certain radius of each other,” she says.
Thompson attributes her success to the relationships her employees build with clients and customer referrals. Service is the driving force at the company, she says. “I come from a service background. It’s very important” Thompson says.
It is what has allowed her to grow her business from five employees four years ago to 57. And 2023 looks like it will be another banner year for the company. “We will do five times as much business as we did in 2020. We are going to exceed our goal for the year,” Thompson says. “Year after year we are continuously breaking records.”
Thompson also focuses on hiring the right people for her business. “My team is the best in the business. I’ll put my team up against anybody. Since we opened, I have been building the team like [Patriot’s Coach Bill] Belichick. I keep the best and get rid of the rest,” she says. “Everybody pulls their weight here which is why we exceeded everybody else.”
The only challenge she has faced this year is a shortage of vans for sale. “We’ve been so busy I had to rent them,” she says.
Thompson is not one to rest on her laurels and has plans to open another location but is not ready to reveal where yet. “I always want more,” she says. “I am very proud of how far we’ve come.”
