Wright-Pierce Engineer Takes Top Honors

Published Thursday Oct 9, 2008

Lindsey Brough, an environmental engineer in the wastewater practice group at Wright-Pierce, an environmental engineering firm with offices in Portsmouth, recently took top honors in a green competition. Brough was a member of a multidisciplinary team of Lafayette College students who came in first in the annual U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Natural Talent Design contest held this past spring. The Lafayette team was the only undergraduate team to receive the prestigious award in a field of graduate students and professional design firms.

According to the contest guidelines, the goal was "to create the most sustainable learning environment on an assigned site." As members of the New York regional chapter of USGBC, Brough's team was assigned the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park site in Brooklyn, NY. The challenge was to revitalize the urban, waterfront park using green principles of integrated design, sustainability, and innovation all components of the LEED green building rating system. Brough's team converted an abandoned historic warehouse complex and adjacent state park into a middle school, community arts center, and commercial space.

Brough is a 2008 graduate of Lafayette College where she earned a B.S. in civil and environmental engineering. She joined Wright-Pierce in July and is a project engineer in the Wastewater Practice Group.

Founded in 1947, Wright-Pierce is employee owned and has a staff of 150 engineers and support professionals located in six offices, including Portsmouth, throughout New England.
