The Good News is NH Is Growing

Published Thursday Oct 30, 2014

With Election Day around the corner, you may be interested in news about NH's economic trends. The consumer advocacy site NerdWallet found the fastest-growing "Cities on the Rise," in NH by analyzing census data for employment, population and income growth, and Durham, Littleton and Portsmouth topped the list.

NerdWallet's analysis also identified these trends:

  • Growth is all over the state. It appears economic growth spreads quickly in a small state, and all NH counties, except Coos and Belknap, made appearances in our top 10.
  • The working-age population growth is small. The state lags in the ability to attract younger residents. Its working-age population has seen slow growth, with only a high of 2.7 percent found in our top 20 places.
  • Income growth is evenly distributed. While some states see wide variations in income, communities in NH stay relatively close to the state’s median. No area saw gains over 12 percent, and only one town saw a decrease in income.
