Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) laser-guided rockets


This Week’s Spotlight: The U.S. Navy awarded BAE Systems in Nashua, Merrimack and Hudson, a contract worth up to $600 million for Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) laser-guided rockets. The company expects it will be able to ramp up production to 20,000 APKWS guidance units per year with potential for additional growth.

Waste Management donated $15,000 to the Rochester Opera House in Rochester to support its new Performance and Arts Center, which will be named for Waste Management. The Center, located on North Main Street, is a new venue that combines studio and performance spaces, an art gallery, and comprehensive arts and educational programs.

McGowan Fine Art in Concord completed an art installation for Bank of NH’s Portsmouth branch. Amanda McGowan Lacasse, art consultant for McGowan Fine Art, coordinated the selection and installation of artwork for the project.

The Lakes Region Tourism Association in Tilton is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. As part of its anniversary celebration, the Association will honor 15 area family-owned businesses that are celebrating major anniversaries at its annual meeting on Nov. 1 at Hart’s Turkey Farm Restaurant in Meredith.

Calypso Communications, an integrated creative and public relations agency in Portsmouth, hired Tory Mazzola as director of strategic communications and promoted Lauren Smith to senior public relations manager. Mazzola previously served as senior manager of corporate communications for Performance Sports Group in Exeter. Smith joined Calypso in 2015 as a public relations account executive.

The NH Fiscal Policy Institute, an independent, a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that promotes public policies that foster economic opportunity and prosperity for NH residents, appointed reappointed Margaret Walsh, professor of Sociology and assistant dean for the School of Sciences and Social Sciences at Keene State College, to a second three-year term on the board of directors.

The Henry Wilson Elementary School in Manchester received $3,520 through the Fuel Up To Play 60 program, which is a student-led, in-school physical activity and nutrition program. The grant will fund the Grab ‘N Go program, which provides healthy snacks, and the purchase of physical education equipment. Funding is provided by New England Dairy & Food Council and the Dairy Farmers of NH.

Shaheen & Gordon PA, a law firm with offices in Concord, Dover, and Manchester as well as Saco, Maine, had three attorneys selected for the 2016 Super Lawyers rising stars list: Timothy P. Beaupre, worker’s compensation; Kara J. Dowal, health care; and Rachel S. Violette, family law. The Rising Stars list recognizes no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in each state.

Cindy Bates, director of training of The Common Man Family in Ashland, was re-elected to the board of directors of the Council of Hotel & Restaurant Trainers, a national professional association. She has been a member of the organization for more than eight years.

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced the 2016 graduates of the NH SBA Emerging Leaders program. Sixteen small business owners completed the seven-month federal training initiative that focuses on executives of businesses poised for growth.  The no-cost program includes 100+ hours of professional specialized training and peer-to-peer counseling.
