Methuen Construction, a Plaistow-based construction company, secured a $13 million federal contract with the United States Navy, according to a statement from U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen D-NH, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan D-NH. The project includes modernizing and upgrading dry dock pumping facilities related to the docking and undocking of submarines at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
“New Hampshire businesses and manufacturers are known for their significant contributions to our national defense programs, so I’m glad to see Methuen Construction participate in that network of local companies investing in our military readiness, and specifically here at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard,” says Shaheen.
“The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is critical to our economic vitality on the Seacoast and integral to our national security,” says Hassan. “I commend the U.S. Navy for awarding Methuen Construction this federal investment, which will not only spur economic growth and support workers but will also help ensure that the hard-working men and women of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard have the resources and support they need to continue working to keep our country safe, secure, and free.”

Shaheen toured Methuen Construction last year and spoke with Barbone, s well as founder and former president Leon Asadoorian about the company’s workforce development efforts, their focus on closing the skills gap and the company’s involvement with SkillsUSA, which connects college and high school students with technical apprenticeships and training opportunities.
